Our picks for your winter look.
Saturday, November 9, 2013We had a great summer here in the UK. You can’t deny that, but the sun is gone and so is your tan so here are our picks to give you a boost. Warm colours and uplifting shapes are our suggestion and maybe just one that embraces the cold.
Sara by Paulino Spectacles
One of my favourite new brands from this year. Paulino Spectacles are hand made in the last eyewear factory in the whole of the Iberian peninsula.
The Sara is a heavy acetate round eye that has great gravitas. In this particular colour, it gives a real warmth without being overpowering.
Perfect for a sunday walk along the Southbank, looking at second hand books you’ll never buy this December.
Nitin by YMC v McGinn
Designed by my good friend Brian McGinn, this collaboration with YMC has been a huge success for us. Hand made in France with very careful supervision by Brian himself. He is nothing if not an “attention to detail” man.
Oversized and with a beautiful amber tortoiseshell. Black arms add an interesting contrast.
They’ll hide any number of flu eyes, not to mention a ‘morning after the work party’ face.
Ted by Mykita
Maybe you love winter. Maybe you embrace the cold and the dark evenings.
Cooler than a January hoar frost, sharper than a foot long icicle, Mykita make their frames in their own Berlin factory using chemical etching to minimise waste. Surgical grade stainless steel is their material of choice and all this without a weld or a screw.
This a frame with which to take a chilly walk enjoying the brutalist architecture of the National Theatre or the Barbican.
Lilla by Oliver Peoples
Oliver Peoples have been masters of classic design and reserved cool for 25 years now.
The Lilla, released earlier this year, is an understated cat eye that will give any wearer a much needed lift at this time of year. Especially in this colour which will rosy up those cheeks right away.
Roast dinner in your local pub with a glass of excellent ale from Two Cocks Brewery will best compliment this frame
Alderman by Paul Smith
Classic with a twist is the mantra of Paul Smith. A comforting familiarity comes as standard with every frame.
The Alderman is a unisex round metal frame with acetate sides that is perfectly proportioned. In this colour combination it comes with a chocolate coloured front and arms that are olive and chestnut.
Take it on a long country walk through a bare forest then reward yourself with a hot toddy.
As always, we recommend regular eye checks and our optometrists would be pleased to see you soon should you be tempted by any of these frames. Call 02072405055 or email hello@mcclintock-eyewear.co.uk for an appointment.
Lastly, remember to wrap up warm this winter.
