Today it is all about the Funk, Dieter Funk that is. I have been selling Funk Royal Optics for over two years now and Dieter keeps bringing me new things to excite me. Especially since he moved production from Japan to his own workshop in Kinsau, near Munich. As I mentioned in Dieter’s profile over on the Designers page, the entire Funk operation is now housed in one building. The office, design studio, manufacturing plant and the showroom. Even Dieter’s home!

At Silmo I saw his latest collections. Most exciting for me were these lovely colours. Shades of grey ranging from mink through to sage. Shapes that are slightly smaller than last year, in line with a lot of the collections I saw. The super giant frames that dominated the cool brands last year and the year before have come down slightly to more manageable sizes. Good news for those of you that want the look but don’t have the required skull size.

He still threw in a few interesting retro ideas like this model called Franz. Like something that Kenneth Baker or Douglas Hurd would have sported in 1981 but strangely alluring. Can you believe enough time passed for this to come back?

Nothing else to report just yet but in the next few weeks I will have new Kirk Originals and Michel Henau to talk about, two new collections to tell you about and anything else that pops into my head.

One last thing, if you didn’t like the pun at the beginning of this post, just be thankful I didn’t lead with “We’ve got the Funk” or “Gonna get Funky” or even “What’s that Funky smell?”
