  • New Arrivals, Part 2.

Although not strictly a Silmo purchase, I have recently taken delivery of a new brand here at the store; Grotesque Frame. The designer Daniel Benner and I have been friends for a few years now and although I had wanted to have his collection in the store, there never seemed to be a right time, until now! The Paris trade show was, as I said in an earlier post, too too short and I had meant to go and see Daniel but ran out of time. Luckily, Daniel was in London for a photo shoot last month and we took the opportunity to meet up and choose some frames for the store.

His frames are all hand made in Bavaria and are finished absolutely perfectly. The polish and sheen are proof that Daniel uses the best Italian acetate. He custom laminates the colour combinations at the factory and because of this, they are truly unique. They are polished for twice as long as the average frame and each frame takes four months to complete.

“But wait!” I hear you say. “Why does he call them Grotesque? That there is a lovely frame Sir!” Well, his earlier work was very unusual. He often created designs that challenged the wearer. Perhaps it’s age, perhaps it’s his entry into fatherhood, but his newer designs have mellowed into very luxurious, wearable shapes. However, when he likes, he can still shake things up. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the Grotesque Slime!
